NEW: Alarm bells ring at Harare City

Online Reporter

ALARM bells must be ringing at Harare City FC as the club continues to slide down the log standings.

There is speculation coach Taurai Mangwiro is increasingly getting frustrated and might soon walk away.

The municipal side are winless in their last six matches and suffered a third consecutive defeat last weekend.

The 1-2 defeat to CAPS United at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday left Harare City on 14th position with 18 points from 19 matches.

City last won a league match on April 30 and are now tied on 18 points with ZPC Kariba, who occupy the last relegation slot but enjoy a slight goal superiority.

They now face in-form Yadah Stars hoping to arrest a freefall that has thrust them amongst favourites for the chop.

Yadah and Harare City kick off Round 20 of the 2021/2022 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League at the National Sports Stadium on Friday.

Harare City have three wins in 19 matches and are joint lowest in terms of matches won with Bulawayo City, who notched up their third win in the league over the weekend when they stunned Manica Diamonds 1-0 at Sakubva Stadium.

A source at the municipal side said morale was “very low” at the club.

“If you remember there has always been uncertainty in terms of support for the team by the council.

“This has affected the smooth running of the club as issues to do with finances are sometimes a problem,” said the source.

“The coach has been trying to stitch things together, but he is getting a bit frustrated now.”

And, in Yadah, they face a team that has hit a purple patch.

Genesis Mangombe’s side are on a two-game winning streak, having beaten Dynamos and ZPC Kariba in the last two weeks.

They now sit 11th on the log with 22 points, five above the relegation zone.
