AFTER an almost three-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Carling Black Label National Pool Tournament makes its long-awaited return this month, with the event slated for July 23 in the capital.
Zimbabwe Pool Association (ZPA) technical director Wellington Chikasha told The Sunday Mail Online that everything is now in place for the national finals.
“We are more than ready to host this year’s Carling Black Label finals, a tournament we last hosted in 2019,” said Chikasha.
“We have 96 (64 men and 32 ladies) athletes that will take part in this year’s finals that will be held in Harare on July 23.”
The CBL tournament, he added, gives emerging players the platform to showcase their talent.
“The CBL tournament – the biggest ever event in pool history – provides a platform for both old and upcoming players.
“Emerging players are being identified courtesy of this tournament, and the partnership we have with Delta Corporation has opened up new avenues for other reputable sponsors,” he said.
The last round of regional qualifiers was held last weekend in Harare and attracted 146 participants – 124 men and 22 women.
“The Harare qualifiers saw 124 men and 22 ladies participating, after which 10 men and four ladies punched their tickets to the finals.”
