NEW: Balakasi dominates NRSL scoring charts

Online Reporter

DESPITE undergoing an uncharacteristic dry spell in the Northern Region Soccer League, Simba Bhora striker Tinashe Balakasi still leads the scoring charts into the second half.

He is well poised to grab the Golden Boot award.

Balakasi currently has 19 goals to his credit.

He found the target 18 times by the time the league reached its halfway mark.

But, uncharacteristic of the regularity with which he scored in the first 16 games of the season, Balakasi has only added just one goal to his tally from the three matches that Simba Bhora have played since the resumption of the championship.

The 30-year-old forward, who has contributed the most goals in Simba Bhora’s 47-goal haul to date, however remains poised to run away with the top scorer’s gong, given the gap between him and his nearest rivals.

Black Mambas striker, Nobert Zingo, is sitting a distant second on the charts with eight goals to his credit.

Behind Zingo, with seven goals apiece is the pair of his Black Mambas teammate, Wesley Chifamba, and Golden Eagles’ Claudio Mapoka.

The Ngezi Under-19 duo of Takunda Benhure and Tendai Matindife, have six goals each, as do Henry Manatsa of Golden Eagles and Herentals Under-20’s Salif Cheya.

But the spotlight continues to fall on Balakasi whose scoring exploits have helped Simba Bhora into a second-place position with 42 points, just one just behind log leaders Herentals U-20.

Crucially for Balakasi and his teammates is that they have a game in hand, which if they win against Golden Eagles, could see them reclaim top spot.
