WATER levels in Lake Kariba are expected to continue rising as improved rainfall across its catchment area boosts inflows into the reservoir, the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) has said.
In a hydrological outlook update released Wednesday morning, the authority said the ongoing 2025/2026 rainfall season has brought improved rainfall performance across much of the Kariba catchment area, resulting in stronger river flows and gradual increases in reservoir storage levels.
According to the update, the Kariba Reservoir water level stood at 477,74 metres above sea level as of March 10, 2026.
Usable live storage for electricity was 15,57 percent, equivalent to 10,08 billion cubic metres of usable water.
This marks an improvement from the same date in 2025, when the reservoir measured 476,93 metres above sea level, with usable live storage of 9,87 percent, or 6,44 billion cubic metres.
“The water levels in the Kariba Reservoir have been gradually rising since the beginning of the 2025/2026 rainfall season,” reads the statement.
“This is primarily attributed to intensified rainfall activity on and around Lake Kariba and the trend is projected to continue as we approach the end of the first quarter of 2026.”
Hydrological monitoring also shows increasing flows along the Zambezi River.
