ZIFA Eastern Region Division One clubs – Buffaloes and FC Wangu Mazedze – were involved in separate road accidents yesterday, leaving one person dead and scores injured.

Eastern Region board member Benjamin Chindima confirmed the accidents.

“It is a sad day for the Eastern Region family following accidents that involved FC Wangu Mazodze’s   and Buffaloes’ buses in Rusitu and Marondera respectively.

“I wish a speedy recovery to all those in hospital and our heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved one. I arrived at the scene about 15min after the accident had occurred in Rusitu together with Eastern Region Soccer League vice chairman Simba Wisdom. It was a sorry sight to see the bus in a ditch with people trapped underneath.

“At least the fire brigade attended the scene and well-wishers also had gathered, trying to help those trapped and ferrying those injured to hospital. I must say thank you to the people of Risutu. May God bless you for the love you showed,” said Chindima.

Post Sport understands that the deceased was an FC Wangu Mazodze fan who was travelling with the team to Rusitu from their Masvingo base.
