Corruption accused Mike Chimombe and Moses Mpofu have been ordered by the High Court to cover their erstwhile business partner Wicknell Chivayo’s legal costs after he attended their hearing with his lawyer.

Chivayo was subpoenaed to attend a court session as a witness in Chimombe and Mpofu’s application for referral of their matter to the Constitutional Court.

A subpoena is a formal written order that requires a person to appear before a court.

Chimombe and Mpofu are accused of abusing the Presidential Goats pass-on scheme.

Through his lawyer Advocate Sylvester Hashiti, Chivhayo indicated to the court that they intended to challenge the subpoena and asked for an adjournment to converse.

After that, Chimombe and Mpofu decided to withdraw the subpoena.

Justice Pisirai Kwenda confirmed the position and ordered the duo to meet Chivayo’s legal costs.

Chimombe and Mpofu had also subpoenaed Harare Provincial Public Prosecutor, Mrs Tendai Shonhai and investigating officer in the matter, Henry Chapwanya, but reversed their decision.
