The New Chirundu Bridge is undergoing repairs which started on Monday and are expected to be completed on June 17 and will be temporarily closed to motorists during the period.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Dr Obert Mpofu said in a statement this week that the bridge would be closed to traffic for two-hour intervals either in the morning or in the afternoon during that time.

“The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, on behalf of the Department of Roads, wishes to inform the public that there will be bridge repair works on the New Chirundu Bridge and the bridge will be closed to traffic between May 14 and June 17,” said Dr Mpofu.

He said light vehicles should use the old bridge while repairs are being carried out on the New Chirundu Bridge.

“Heavy vehicles may be allowed to use the old bridge if necessary, but we encourage the use of the new bridge during the times when it is open to traffic,” said Dr Mpofu.

“On behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, I sincerely regret any inconvenience these closures will cause to the motoring public.”
