George Maponga in Masvingo

A serial robber from Shindi Village, Chivi, has been arrested after being linked to more than 80 robbery cases in and around Ngundu Growth Point.

Gift Muroiwa (33) allegedly went on a robbery spree from February 2023 to January this year and stole cash amounting to over US$14 500 and about 46 000 rand.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa said Muroiwa used axes, hammers, hoes and other objects to break into people’s homes at night.

He would allegedly threaten his victims and demand cash, cellphones and other valuables before vanishing into the night.

Muroiwa’s reign of terror came to an end after police received a tip-off and pounced on Muroiwa at his hide-out, leading to his arrest.

Inspector Dhewa said Muroiwa is being linked to more robbery cases and thanked the Ngundu community for working closely with the police in arresting him.
