Churches in Zimbabwe must work together for the realisation of sustainable peace and development, Interreligious Association for Peace and Development Zimbabwe (IAPDZ) president, Bishop Albert Chikuni, has said.
In his remarks at the provincial commissioning and ordination of peace builders on Friday in Kwekwe, Bishop Chikuni said the organisation was established to assist Government in its efforts to reach out to the public for developmental purposes.
“IAPDZ is a constitutional awakening mandate of religious leaders who responded to the provision of the Constitution of Zimbabwe by taking a collective responsibility of leading all citizens to participate in national unity, peace and stability.
“We affirm that we are a non-partisan and non-political organisation that believes in the unity of religions as a key strategy to unite all citizens so that we assist the Government in all its efforts to reach out to the public for developmental purposes,” he said.
Bishop Chikuni said the body has resolved to overcome the divisive tendencies that have in the past emerged within religion circles.
It will also work to promote dialogue, mutual respect and cooperation.
