NEW: Duramazwi to perform at Dubai Expo

THE Duramanzwi Mbira Ensemble, one of the most active and popular mbira groups in the country, is set to perform at the 2021 Dubai Expo.

The Dubai Expo is scheduled to start on October 1 and will run up until March 31, 2022.

Participants from over 190 countries are set to take part in this prestigious global showcase.

An elated Sarudzai Jaravaza, the leader of the mbira group, yesterday broke the news of the impending trip to the Sunday Mail Online.

“As I speak, I am coming from a meeting where the deal for us to perform at the Dubai Expo has been sealed. After being inactive for a long time, we are raring to go as we aim at promoting both our brand and our country,” said Jaravaza, who is also a traditional healer.

Jaravaza’s group fuses mbira dances with gourds (hosho) and drums, with intricate foot movements.

In the past, Duramanzwi has performed, to standing ovations, at such music festivals as the Harare Mbira Festival and the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA).
