NEW: Embrace remote working, miners urged

Local miners should adopt cutting-edge technology to streamline operations and improve efficiency, a German-based Zimbabwean entrepreneur has said.

In an interview with The Sunday Mail, Mr Kumbirai Chipadza, co-founder of Kuchera, a German-based technology company specialising in optimising haulage operational efficiency in mining, said remote working was the way to go for local miners.

“By leveraging technology, mines can achieve greater efficiency, reduce costs and enhance safety,” he said. “I encourage young people to explore opportunities in remote work and global entrepreneurship.

“The world is becoming increasingly interconnected and technology can level the playing field for businesses from across the globe.”

Mr Chipadza said Kuchera, which was founded in 2023 by a team of tech experts, offered a cloud-based platform to drive innovation and enhance productivity in the mining industry.

“Kuchera’s flagship product, teamUp, provides real-time data on key metrics such as cycle times, speed limits, mechanical data and fuel consumption. This information empowers mine managers to make informed decisions and optimise performance, even from remote locations,” he said.

Although Kuchera was founded in Germany, the company has embraced a global operational model to collaborate remotely with teams in Africa, including Zimbabwe.

Mr Chipadza, who was born in Zvishavane, relocated to Germany in 2016 and is working with several local miners.
