THE Public Service Commission (PSC), which employs all civil servants, has given teachers who are not reporting for duty or delivering service to learners until February 22 to perform according to their contractual obligations.
In a statement on Wednesday, the PSC said it has been left with no option but to let go of personnel prejudicing learners of their constitutional right to education.
“All teachers, deputy heads and heads of schools who do not report for duty by Tuesday 22 will be deemed to have resigned from the service.
“Those reporting for duty but not teaching will also be deemed to have resigned,” said the PSC.
Teachers who would have resigned by default but occupy school accommodation will be required to leave the properties immediately after.
PSC has actively begun recruiting teachers to replace those who would have resigned.
“Unemployed trained teachers, university and college graduates in the sciences, engineering, vocational areas and other disciplines interested in joining the teaching profession should ensure they are registered at the nearest district education offices as the recruitment process will begin after February 22, 2022,” added the statement.
Those who would have ‘resigned’ are not eligible for re-employment.
Recently, Government increased teacher salaries, but some trade unions have turned down the offer.
