NEW: Farmers deliver 141 million kilogrammes of tobacco

FARMERS have so far delivered 141 million kilogrammes of tobacco, worth about US$498 million to both contract and auction tobacco floors.

According to the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB), 141 million kg of tobacco valued at US$498 million had been sold at an average price of US$3,53 by May 20, 2024.

This shows a 26 percent decrease from 191 million kilogrammes delivered by the same period in 2023.

Auction floors have taken delivery of 8 million kilogrammes, while contractors have contributed 132 million kilogrammes.

The highest price achieved to date is US$6,99 per kg, while the lowest is US$0,10.
