EASTERN Region Division One League pacesetters FC Wangu Mazodze have dedicated their upcoming match against Midway to late supporter Kumbirai Kanda, who died in a road accident last weekend.
A bus carrying FC Wangu Mazodze supporters plunged into a river on its way to Chimanimani, and Kanda – a popular supporter – died on the spot, while several fans suffered serious injuries.
The grief-stricken team, who have 13 points from five matches, will host third-placed Midway at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo on Sunday.
Fifty percent of the gate takings will be donated to the Kanda’s family.
“The club has resolved to remember and honour his (Kanda) contribution to the Zhalala Zhululu family by dedicating our next match to him,” said FC Wangu Mazodze vice president Getrude Mazodze.
“The club will be donating 50 percent of all gate takings for our home match against Midway to his family.
“As usual, our boys will do us proud at home on the day by winning in honour of Mr Kanda.
“The good Lord will see us through these difficult moments as Zhalala Zhululu family.”
FC Wangu Mazodze have four wins and a draw from their opening five matches.
They are a point clear of second-placed Tenax going into round six of the 2023 ZIFA Eastern Region Soccer League.
JM Busha are fifth with eight points, while former Premier Soccer League side Buffaloes are sixth with seven points.
Chiredzi Stars anchor the 16-team log with two points from five matches.
