THE Fitness and Wellness national festival roars to life from today to Thursday in Checheche, Chipinge District, with youths from the country’s 10 provinces partaking in sport and arts activities.

The three-day event will run under the theme: “Curbing Drugs and Substance Abuse Through Fitness and Wellness #MentalHealthMatters.”

The youth will engage in sporting disciplines like football, netball, volleyball and athletics and arts activities such as visual arts (drawings and paintings), performing arts (comedy, poetry and musical performances).

Deputy Director, Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation, Mr Ranson Madzamba, said it was all systems go.

“The use of harmful drugs and substances by youths is increasing on a daily basis. The rampant abuse of drugs and harmful substance by our future generation has pushed the sport and recreation department to consider sport and recreation as a tool to address the menace.

“The 2023 Fitness and Wellness Festival will also encompass the participation of people with disability as our national mantra states that we should leave no one and no place behind. The theme emphasizes on the importance of bold transformative ideas and accessible education in combating discrimination as well as fighting the use of drugs and substance abuse by young people in different communities,” he said.

The event will light up Checheche Growth Point and will be curtained off by Sulumani Chimbetu.
