THE Zimbabwe Football Restructuring Committee, which was appointed by the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) as a year-long effort to transform football in the country, has started the much-awaited public hearings.
SRC appointed the committee in the aftermath of the suspension of the Felton Kamambo-led Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) board in November last year.
A strategic report outlining a forward-looking plan for developing football in Zimbabwe is expected from the Zimbabwe Football Restructuring Committee after it completes the public hearings, which began at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Thursday.
Another public hearing is set for City Hall in Bulawayo on June 14.
“These consultations are a part of a process that will lead to the publication of a strategic report outlining a forward-looking plan for developing football in Zimbabwe,” wrote the committee in a newspaper advert.
SRC is adamant that there is need for the country to put in place vibrant football structures first before applying for re-admission into the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
Zimbabwe is currently suspended by FIFA for government interference after SRC suspended the Zifa board, which had become riddled with accusations such as funds embezzlement to sexual abuse of female referees.
