OVER 200 residents in Sakubva’s Muchena section have welcomed the re-opening of an ablution block after struggling to frequently access water and toilet facilities.

The ablution block in Ward Four in Muchena was closed for renovations, a development which saw residents in the area stampeding for ablution facilities elsewhere.

The block, which is expected to be fully functional by Friday, has spacious bathrooms, laundry space and toilets for both males and females.

Addressing Muchena residents today, ZANU PF Mutare Urban District Coordinating Committee chairman, Cde Binali Yard, said the development came at a time residents – especially women and the elderly –  were struggling to access ablution facilities in the populous suburb.

“This is a huge development and we would like to thank Mutare City Council for ensuring that residents access water and ablution facilities efficiently, especially after the closure of the block for renovations.

“We are not politicking where one party will benefit, but this is a development for everyone regardless of political affiliation. It is sad that residents were now using the bucket system to relieve themselves while throwing the waste into drainages, thereby posing a health hazard,” he said.
