GEO POMONA WASTE MANAGEMENT has started preparations to take over waste collection in Harare following an inspection of the city’s depots and garages on Thursday.
The company recently signed a waste collection agreement with the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works and the City of Harare aimed at addressing the council’s inability to manage waste effectively.
Sharing updates on its X platform (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Geo Pomona highlighted the need for upgrades at the inspected facilities while noting their potential to support efficient waste management operations.
“Yesterday, we toured City of Harare garages to explore ways to boost waste collection,” the post read.
“Many facilities need upgrades, but they hold great potential for parking, servicing and fuelling refuse trucks.
“The company has already been entrusted with conducting waste collection in Harare.”
Geo Pomona has purchased most of the equipment and trucks needed for the project, with deliveries expected to commence soon.
In a recent interview, Geo Pomona Waste Management chief executive officer Dr Dilesh Nguwaya confirmed that the equipment is currently being shipped and should arrive in Zimbabwe by the end of February.
“We are fully prepared for this responsibility,” Dr Nguwaya said.
“The necessary equipment has been procured, and by the end of February, all equipment is expected to arrive.
“The initiative will be officially launched by the President.”
This partnership marks a significant step in addressing Harare’s long-standing waste management challenges.
