NEW: Government launches citywide beautification initiative

Online Reporter

THE Government has launched a beautification programme aimed at transforming Harare into “a vibrant and attractive city”.

The programme aims to boost economic development, enhance aesthetics and foster civic pride in the capital.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works urged property owners to comply with city by-laws and maintain their properties.

The Government, in collaboration with local authorities, is also working to repair and maintain infrastructure, as well as alleviate traffic congestion.

“The property owners in Harare are expected to comply with the provisions of Chapter 2 of the Model Building By-Laws of 1977 which clearly state that no person shall allow any building constructed upon premises of which he is the owner or occupier to become a danger to the health of persons occupying or using the building,” said the ministry.

“All property owners in Harare central business district and surrounding areas, and specifically those that have received notice from the City of Harare are, therefore, requested to comply with the provisions of the By-Law by ensuring that their buildings are spruced up.”
