NEW: Govt to relocate farmers near Buffalo Range Airport

Government will relocate farmers near Buffalo Range Airport in Masvingo Province to pave way for its expansion.

Addressing Tuesday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said relocation will enhance aviation security standards.

“For purposes of expanding Buffalo Range Airport in Masvingo Province, the Cabinet resolved that all farmers settled on the critical zones of the airport should be relocated.

“Cabinet noted that continued farming operations in the airport’s critical zones have resulted in a sharp increase in human, domestic and wild animal incursions on the airfield,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

She said cropping activities have also affected the aerodrome’s environs, while rampant cutting down of trees, veld fires and quarry mining activities on the western side of the airport have led to significant land degradation.
