STRUGGLING Harare City Council has resorted to borrowing over $1 billion to finance service delivery in and around the metropolis.

In a notice, the City of Harare indicated that they will borrow $1 361 080 800 for a number of services.

“Notice is hereby given that in terms of section 290 (3) (a) of the Urban Council Act (Chapter 29; 15), council resolved to borrow a sum not exceeding ZWL1 361 080 800 for the purpose hereunder,” reads part of the statement.

Council went further to urge ratepayers who have objections to lodge complaints in writing to the acting Town Clerk before April 7.

The money, HCC said, will be channeled to waste management, water, health, road infrastructure, traffic management and public lighting.

Council also said the other money is needed to service their vehicles and pay bills at Rowan Martin building, ICT, corporate communication, emergency services, and social amenities.
