NEW: Harare dismisses fake water shutdown notice

Online Reporter

HARARE City Council (HCC) has urged ratepayers to disregard a fake message circulating on social media on the purported planned shutdown of water supplies.

The notice suggested that Morton Jaffray and Warren Control Water Works, which supply the capital with its water, will be shut for nearly a month.

HCC spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme said the statement was meant to mislead residents and stakeholders.

“We would like to dismiss this notice: It is fake and did not originate from council. Residents should disregard this information,” he said.

He, however, urged residents to use water sparingly and to pay their bills on time so that the council can continue to provide water.

“Any maintenance work that needs to be done at Morton Jaffray will be communicated to you through our platforms,” added Mr Chideme.
