NEW: Irrigation boon for rural communities

INSTALLATION of US$10,5 million worth of irrigation equipment and machinery under the Pedstock Centre Pivot Facility in all rural provinces across the country is now 93 percent complete, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Addressing Tuesday’s post-Cabinet briefing, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said: “The Irrigation Development, Pedstock Centre Pivot Facility in all rural provinces is 93,3 percent complete. 130 boreholes for irrigation had been drilled.”

She also said the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development had surpassed a number of targets in management of the national herd, including branding of 1,2 million cattle against a target of 800 000.

“With regard to hay cutting and bailing, 848 735 of the target of 500 000 bales of hay were cut and bailed.

“Pertaining to the local production of vaccines for tickborne diseases, 15 000 doses of vaccines were produced,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
