NEW: Man killed over gay accusations

A 32-year-old man was stoned to death on Monday by a colleague he had accused of being gay.

The incident occurred at Boka bus terminus along the Harare- Masvingo Road.

Police have since arrested the suspect, Benedict Rueben, in connection with the case.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest.

“On January 6, 2025, police in Harare arrested Benedict Rueben in connection with a case of murder which occurred at Boka Bus terminus along Harare–Masvingo Road,” he said.

“The suspect hit the victim, Maxwell Mahanzu, aged 32, with a stone after the victim mocked him, claiming that he was gay since he was wearing earrings. The victim died on the spot.”
