MUTARE CITY COUNCIL has expressed interest in partnering with Geo Pomona Waste Management to tackle the city’s waste disposal challenges.
The development follows a visit by Mutare mayor Councillor Simon Chabuka and town clerk Mr Blessing Chafesuka to the Geo Pomona Waste Management site in Harare on Tuesday.
Reflecting on the visit, Mayor Chabuka admitted that the city was initially unaware of the scale of operations at Geo Pomona Waste Management but is now eager to adopt similar strategies.

“We have gained valuable insights. To be honest, we were not aware of the massive project taking place here,” he said.
“Now, as we return to Mutare, we will consult with stakeholders to explore ways to develop a sustainable waste management system similar to what we have seen today.”
Mr Chafesuka stressed the importance of collaboration between municipalities and private sector players with expertise in waste management.
“The City of Mutare may not have the capacity to execute such a project alone, but we can explore structured partnerships in line with Government regulations,” he explained.

Geo Pomona Waste Management chief executive officer and executive chairperson Dr Dilesh Nguwaya expressing the company’s willingness to collaborate with local authorities to improve waste management solutions.
He highlighted Geo Pomona’s success in converting thousands of tonnes of waste into energy and reusable materials, reducing Harare’s landfill dependency and promoting cleaner urban environments.
“We are eager to work with local authorities to implement effective waste management strategies,” said Dr Nguwaya.
“Their visit allows them to see our approach firsthand. In fact, Mutare is not the first city to show interest — Bulawayo officials have also visited us.”
