A MAN from Odzi lost US$2 300 and sustained injuries when two robbers who are suspected to be gold panners in the area pounced on him while he was walking home recently.

The suspects – Antony Marungo (21) and Garikai Chibangwe (28) – have since appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Prisca Manhibi, charged with robbery.

They pleaded guilty and were remanded in custody to March 25 for sentencing.

Prosecutor, Mr Thaston Mubvumi said the suspects attacked Mr Learmore Mutsotso as he was walking home.

“Marungo and Chibangwe are nomadic gold panners who usually roam the area and sometime in February, the two teamed up to attack the complainant on his way home. They grabbed him by the neck and stabbed him on the neck before taking his money,” said Mr Mubvumi.

The complainant made a police report and investigations led to the suspects’ arrest.
