A HARARE man has taken his wife to court accusing her of verbal abuse, locking him out of their home and demanding payment for raising their children.
Godfrey Nyamundo made the allegations at the Harare Civil Court on Wednesday, claiming that his wife, Emily Nyamudiwa, had been mistreating him.
“She insults me, saying she regrets marrying a financially unstable man,” Nyamundo told the court.
“She also took my passport, certificates, national identity card and medical records, insisting that I must pay her for taking care of our children over the years.”
In defence, Nyamudiwa denied the allegations, arguing that her husband should follow traditional customs to formalise their separation.
“He is lying. I never insulted him, and we have not locked our doors since we started the separation process,” she said.
“We got married traditionally, so he should also divorce me in the customary way by giving me a divorce token (gupuro).”
Presiding magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam ruled that Nyamudiwa must refrain from insulting Nyamundo, locking him out of their home or withholding his personal documents.
