THE National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) Manicaland Chapter today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Blood Donor Day.

The day is observed annually on June 14.

This year’s celebrations ran under the theme “Donating blood is an act of solidarity.”

NBSZ Manicaland spokesperson, Mr Nick Muparutsa said it was important to increase awareness on the importance of donating blood, which is critical in supporting and treating those suffering from chronic and life-threatening complications.

“We are joining the rest of the world in commemorating World Blood Donor Day, whose theme this year rallies people to continue giving blood and increasing the number of blood donors in order to save lives.

“Today we are reminding each other of the need to step up efforts to make available safe blood and blood products for transfusion,” said Mr Muparutsa.

He said NBSZ appreciates the important role played by blood donors.
