A 43-year-old woman and her 27-year-old son have been arrested for allegedly transporting a consignment of 25 kilogrammes of mbanje (cannabis), suspected to have been smuggled into Zimbabwe from South Africa.

Police confirmed the arrest in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the duo was intercepted at a security checkpoint in Makhado, along the Beitbridge–Gwanda Road, on Saturday.

“On Saturday, July 5, 2025, police officers deployed at a roadblock at the 90-kilometre peg along the Beitbridge–Gwanda Road, Makhado, arrested Sibusisiwe Ncube (43) and her son, Stephen Ncube (27), for unlawful possession of 12 cobs of dagga weighing approximately 25 kilogrammes.

“The two were aboard a truck with foreign number plates,” reads the statement.

The pair is expected to appear in court soon to face charges related to the unlawful possession and trafficking of dangerous drugs.
