YESTERYEAR musician Patrick Mukwamba, who has in the past benefited from the benevolence of well-wishers, has once again extended the begging bowl.
Speaking from his base in Rusape, Mukwamba, who rose to national prominence after churning out the hit song “Wapenga Nayo Bonus”, is appealing to well-wishers to come to his aid.
“I am seeking help, any kind of help. I am earning a living through selling sweets, airtime and CDs. The money that I am getting from this vending business is not enough to cover even the most basic of needs.”
He had no kind words for his fellow musicians and music promoters.
“Musicians hardly help one of their own during difficult times. On the other hand, promoters are only bent on exploiting musicians.”
At one time, he lived on the streets for three weeks after being evicted from his lodgings.
He is, however, currently living for free in a small, single room.
“I was offered this room by a man who is based in the United Kingdom, who had heard of my plight. Were it not for this man’s goodwill, I would have been living on the streets as I speak.”
