ZIMBABWE’s four-man team that will hunt for gold at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) African Senior Athletics Championship that will take place from June 8 to June 12 in Mauritius received a shot in the arm from the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC), which will support their financial needs.
The four athletes include short-distance runners Ngoni Makusha, Tapiwanashe Makarawu, Panashe Nhenga and Denzel Siyasimualela.
ZOC, through the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ), will be supporting the four athletes and one technical official.
The trio of Makarawu, Nhenga and Makusha met the African Championships’ qualifying standards for the event in the 200-metre race.
Siyasimualela also met the CAA African Championship and the World Junior Championship’s times in the 200-metre event, which stood at 21.00s and 21.60s, respectively.
“I am extremely thrilled to have made the grade to qualify for the African Senior Championships, but I am more grateful to the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee for their continued support in making my travelling possible,” Makusha told The Sunday Mail Online.
“This will go a long way in helping us prepare better for the event, as it takes the financial stress away and allows us to concentrate on the running.
“Personally, I am happy with how things have gone so far, as I look to be peaking towards the competition.
“I have prepared well and managed to stay injury-free.”
