MORE than 50 households in Ward 19 of Mutare rural recently benefited from an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) project that was carried out in the area by a local telecommunications company.

Ward 19 councillor, Councillor Kelvin Mutsiya, expressed gratitude to TelOne for the programme, saying it will help bridge the digital gap between rural and urban areas.

“TelOne have connected more than 50 households to telephone lines and the Internet in the area. This is a positive development and step in the right direction towards enhancing access to and usage of ICTs.

“Such a move is crucial in promoting improved ICT infrastructure development and maintenance as envisaged in the National Development Strategy (NDS1),” said Cllr Mutsiya.

Under the digital economy priority area, the NDS1 is targeting increased Internet penetration rate from 59,1 percent in 2020 to 75,42 percent by 2025.
