A Mwenezi police detective, who was on suspension from duty for murdering a police officer during a brawl last year, has been arrested again for fatally shooting a suspected robber.

Detective Constable Farai Simudzirai (43) of Mwenezi Criminal Investigations Department allegedly shot dead a suspect using an AK 47 rifle last week along the Rutenga-Beitbridge Highway.

Simudzirai allegedly joined a ZRP crack team that responded to a highway robbery and allegedly fatally shot Shadreck Madzore in the pubic area and left breast.

This was despite Detective Constable Simudzirai’s suspension from duty on July 23 last year.

He allegedly stabbed a fellow police officer Priviledge Hove outside a bar in Karoi and is awaiting trial for murder at the High Court.

Detective Constable Simudzirai was not asked to plead when he appeared before Masvingo magistrate Ms Elizabeth Hanzi facing charges of killing Madzore.

He was remanded in custody to April 10.

Ms Isabel Pambuka appeared for the State.
