PLUMTREE will undergo significant transformation as authorities push for investment in cross-border economic activities.
This follows a notable increase in commercial cargo passing through the town via Botswana, as stated by Plumtree Town Clerk Mr Thembalami Nyoni during the ongoing Matabeleland South investment conference in Beitbridge.
He said demand for office space, truck shops, food outlets, as well as business and residential stands, is rising.
“We have witnessed an economic turnaround in our town, with more commercial trucks now using the Plumtree Border Post as a transit point,” he said.
“This has translated into an increased demand for downstream industries, including office space for customs clearing agents, rental housing, schools, truck stops, accommodation and more,” he added.
“We invite investors to explore opportunities in these areas and have streamlined our processes to accelerate investment.”
Mr Nyoni said over 200 trucks pass through the town daily, heading to either side of the border.
He also indicated that the local authority is open to public-private partnerships to address existing infrastructure deficiencies.
The conference, which aims to promote Matabeleland South as a premier investment destination, attracted various industry leaders, Government agencies, farmers and corporate representatives.
