THE Harare City Council (HCC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that the municipality was planning to slash maize crops planted on wetlands.

In a statement on Friday, HCC also denied claims that those who cultivated on undesignated sites will be fined $25 000.

“Council has no plans to slash people’s maize crops or to charge $25 000 for planting on wetlands,” reads the statement.

“We continue with education and awareness programmes to discourage illegal cultivation. The statement circulating on social media did not originate from council.”
