Before the match started the visitors’ team manager Otilia Ngirande had threatened that her team would trample over the Bulawayo side.
“We want to show these guys that being at home is not enough, we are going to command this game and we are going home with all the points,” she said.
However, New Orleans’ Christina Mpanza had other ideas and opened the scoring in the 13th minute.
She had received a good pass from captain Nokuthula Mpofu.
New Orleans Coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda had opted to keep her cool and be modest before the match started.
“One of my best strikers lost her father and so I cannot say we will take this one.
“The other girls are also de-motivated as it is their loss too but I hope they will put up a good fight,” Sibanda said.
New Orleans had another reason to celebrate in the 21st minute when Yolanda Tshuma slid in the second goal.
The Bulawayo side went three-nil up in the 73rd minute through Ntombikayise Ncube who did justice to a Marla Mbewe pass and by then the match was as good as over.
The visitors got their facesaver after 76 minutes of play through Theresa Kadungure who came in for Eastella Sinola.
The last 10 minutes of the game saw panic from the coaches as they made their last minute substitutions and tried to make sure outcome ended in their favour.
Mbewe put the final nail on the visitors’ coffin.
At the end of the match New Orleans’ Sibanda said the girls had done her proud.
“The girls put up a good fight considering they are coming from a hectic LM Auctioneers tournament which took place in Gweru this week and I am proud of what they have done”, she said.
Backlyfield Chivenga, the Flame Lily coach, said her girls had not played well most probably due to the frustrations the New Orleans supporters had put them through.
“We played a bad game I agree, but the supporters’ behaviour was not called for and it de-motivated the players.
“This was a confused game and the referees were also not very competent,” Chivenga said.
