EFFORTS by Muromo Police Post in Ward 21 of Mutare South to combat crime as well as maintain law and order received a major boost after it received a motorcycle from the area’s local authority representative Councillor Hopewell Muzayeni.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at Mutare Rural Camp this afternoon, Officer Commanding Mutare Rural District Police, Chief Superintendent Plaxedes Mbira, said the development will go a long way in increasing mobility for police officers when discharging their duties in the area.
She said the motorcycle was a necessary recourse in improving police operations and service delivery to the community as it will enable them to widen and expedite police patrols.
“We express our sincere gratitude to Councillor Muzeyani of Ward 21 in Mutare South for the generous donation of a motorcycle to ZRP Muromo Post. This is a significant gesture that will go a long way in enhancing our operations and service delivery to the community.
“As the Officer Commanding Police Mutare Rural District, I can attest to the fact that mobility is one of the critical factors that affect our effectiveness in combating crime and maintaining law and order. With this new addition to our fleet, we can now cover more ground in our patrols,” said Chief Superintendent Mbira, adding:
“On behalf of ZRP Muromo Post and the entire Muromo community, we assure you that we shall put the motorcycle to good use and continue to work tirelessly to make our area safer.”
She said police will remain vigilant before, during and after elections, urging the public to maintain peaceful environments in their communities.
Speaking at the same event, Councillor Muzayeni said the safety and security of communities is a critical component in driving national development.
“I grew up in the Muromo community and remain committed to championing the area’s development. Safety and security are key in developing the country towards the attainment of Vision 2030. This is in line with President Mnangagwa’s mantra: “Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo” in pursuit of Vision 2030,” said Councillor Muzayeni.
Headman Happymore Nyamana commended the gesture by Councillor Muzayeni.
He said it is important for local communities to contribute towards police interventions in fighting crime.
Headman Nyamana is the chairperson of the Muromo crime liaison committee, a community initiative that collaborates with policing activities in the area.
“We look forward to a reduction in the prevalence rate of crime in Muromo community as the donation of the motorcycle will enhance police’s mobility during patrols and attending crime scenes,” said Headman Nyamana.
The ceremony was attended by senior police officers, Muromo traditional leadership and community members.
