NEW: Street man fights grandmother over house

Online reporter

A 26-year-old man who returned home after four years of living in the streets has approached the courts seeking an order to bar his grandmother from chasing him away.

This was revealed at the Harare Civil Court where Mr Tariro Mutero was seeking a restriction order against his grandmother Ms Selina Mutero (75).

“She is chasing me away from home and I am currently staying in the street,” said Mr Mutero. “She says that I am not her grandchild and she has nothing to do with me.

“I am currently struggling for food, clothes and other things and it hurts me because I have a home.”

In her defence, Ms Mutero said she could not take Mr Tariro in because she did not own the house she was staying in.

“My late husband, his grandfather, is the one who chased him away from home because of his behaviour,” she said. “He used to beat up my late husband and that is the reason he was kicked out.

“The house he was chased away from was sold so we are staying at a new place and I cannot stay with him.”

Magistrate Ms Meenal Narotam threw away Mr Tariro’s application.
