NEW: Tobacco sales reach US$327 million

TOBACCO sales have so far generated US$327 million since the beginning of the marketing season, the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) has said.

A total of 108 million kg of the golden leaf were sold at an average of US$3,01 per kg as of Monday.

This translates to at least 1,3 million bales of tobacco sold.

Auction floors have taken delivery of 10 million kg of tobacco, while contractors contributed 98 million kg.

The highest price achieved to date is US$6,10 per kg, while the lowest price was US$0,10.
