FINANCE and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube will next week present to Parliament a strategy paper that will outline how Government intends to protect the local currency from emerging inflationary pressures.
On Wednesday, Professor Ncube told Parliament he will be presenting a ministerial statement on the currency on Thursday next week.
He made the undertaking after he was taken to task on Government’s plan to stabilise the Zimbabwe dollar by ZANU PF Proportional Representation legislator Dorothy Mashonganyika.
“In yesterday’s (Tuesday) session, I was requested to present a ministerial statement on the question that has just been posed. I committed to doing that on Thursday next week. So, I will come back to this August House and give a very clear outline of our plan of action. It is wide-ranging and we are currently fine-tuning that,” said Minister Ncube.
President Mnangagwa has promised a raft of measures to deal with exchange rate volatility and increase public confidence in the local unit.
