EXPATRIATE Bulawayo Chiefs coach Nilton Terroso will have the opportunity to impart his vast knowledge of the game to various coaches during a public lecture in Bulawayo on Monday.
The public lecture – titled “Modern Coaching Methodologies in Soccer” – will be held at the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
Forty-two-year-old Terroso is a holder of a UEFA B licence and has a degree in sports science.
In his career, he once worked as an assistant coach at Cardiff City and later became fitness coach for the Wales U-17 national team.
But, Terroso, whose team Bulawayo Chiefs have been on an ascendancy in the last four weeks, has to first take care of business on Sunday when his side host Bosso in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields Stadium (BF).
It is one of the highly anticipated clashes of Week 13, as Bulawayo Chiefs are unbeaten in their last four matches.
They won their last two against WhaWha and Bulawayo City by identical 1-0 scorelines and have steadily moved up the log table.
Going into the weekend fixtures, Chiefs currently sit tenth on the table with 17 points, five clear of the relegation zone.
Wheels appeared to be coming off for Bulawayo Chiefs in February and March when they failed to pick up a win in six straight matches.
That streak continued into April, but with some better performances, ‘The Ninjas’ managed a crucial 1-1 draw against Ngezi Platinum Stars at Luveve on April 3.
Chiefs then picked up another vital point on the road when they held the vastly improved Manica Diamonds side 0-0 at Sakubva the following week.
Terroso’s men would go on to win their first league match in nine outings when they edged WhaWha 1-0 at Luveve on April 24.
They followed that up with another 1-0 victory against Bulawayo City, a result that cost City coach Philani Ncube his job.
Bulawayo Chiefs now face Highlanders, who are seeking to bounce back to winning ways after three consecutive draws that have left them only three points above the drop zone.
Bosso played out a 1-1 draw against rivals Chicken Inn at Babourfields last weekend, a week after their match against FC Platinum at Mandava was abandoned due to crowd trouble.
Before the Mandava trip, Highlanders had drawn against Triangle and Cranborne Bullets.
The results have left their coach Mandla Mpofu under pressure from the demanding Bosso fans ahead of the match against Bulawayo Chiefs on Sunday.
Highlanders and Bulawayo Chiefs have met four times in the league since 2018 when the latter were promoted into the PSL.
The two sides have two wins apiece.
The last time they met, Bulawayo Chiefs won 1-0 at BF on December 11, 2019.
While Chicken Inn have naturally taken over from Zimbabwe Saints as Highlanders’ biggest rival in Bulawayo, Chiefs have slowly been building their own empire, thanks to their modern and professional approach to the game.
They are a financially stable side that has managed to lure some of the best players in the league including Obriel Chirinda, Kelvin Madzongwe, Perfect Chikwende and the Moyo twins, Kelvin and Elvis.
Impressive centre-back and skipper Malvin Mkolo and bright prospect Mtokhozisi Msebe are some of the players that are being groomed at Amakhosi.
