CHIREDZI-BASED Castle Lager Premiership outfit, Triangle FC new coach, Jairos Tapera inherited a deserted fortress and he is now building a squad around three regular players to compete in the domestic top-flight league.
The country’s top-flight league resumes next weekend for MatchDay 3 for the clubs that could not fulfil their third round of league fixtures.
The Lowveld-based 2018 Chibuku Super Cup winners made a huge impression of their fortitude in the three seasons they have been part of the top-flight league.
Triangle United beat Harare City 2-0 to lift the 2018 Chibuku Super Cup for the first time in their history at Gibbo Stadium.
Tapera, who moved from Black Rhinos, said: “I am not yet there when it comes to preparedness and depth in the team. When l got to Triangle l found three regular players only, so now I am trying to assess as many as possible before I make a decision on which players to chase.
“Yes, l started on Monday (last Monday). l have James Mukombwe, Anlody Chivheya and Russell Madamombe. These are the ones who were with the team and they remained. This means I have a lot of work ahead of me.”
A number of players deserted the Lowveld sugarcane growers for greener pastures, with some joining Manica Diamonds, while others moved to Harare City together with their coach, Taurai Mangwiro.
The nomadic Mangwiro recently moved from Triangle to head the municipality-owned team’s technical department.
