ZIMBABWE’S junior golf scene has found its brightest spark in Ayanda Ndlovu, a nine-year-old sensation whose remarkable performances on international fairways are putting the country firmly in the global spotlight.
Earlier this year, Ayanda competed in the 2025 Champion of Champions Junior World Tournament at the Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland.
Representing Zimbabwe as the only local player in the competition, he stunned the field of 250 players from 40 countries by finishing tied for second place in the boys’ Under-9 category.
His feat not only marked his debut on the global stage, but also earned him automatic qualification to the 2026 World Championships.

From proudly carrying the Zimbabwean flag at the opening and closing ceremonies to holding his nerve against the world’s best young golfers, Ayanda’s performance captured the imagination of many.
“It was such an honour to play for my country,” said Ayanda.
“The competition was tough, but I focused on every shot. Being on the podium made me believe that with dedication, anything is possible.”
Just last week, Ayanda continued his fine form at the SA Kids Golf Junior Africa Challenge (JAC), staged at San Lameer Golf Estate in Durban.
With 196 players in the field and 23 competitors in his age group from five different nations, he battled hard to secure third place in the boys’ Under-9 division.
The JAC is one of Africa’s premier junior tournaments, serving as a gateway to international championships, including the Callaway World Championship and the Asian Junior Masters.
For his parents, Ayanda’s rise is proof of the power of nurturing young talent.
“We are extremely proud of Ayanda,” said his mother, Ms Sithembubuhle Nyathi.
“He has shown that Zimbabwean children can stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the world’s best when given the right support. His journey has only just begun.”
A multi-talented athlete who also thrives in swimming and athletics, Ayanda continues to embody focus, resilience and national pride.
As Zimbabwe eagerly watches his next steps, his achievements signal not only the future of golf, but also the limitless potential of the country’s young athletes.
