PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has said the death of ZANU PF national spokesperson, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo, has robbed the country of an eloquent cadre who served the country with distinction since the liberation struggle.
The President said the revolutionary party will be poorer without the committed cadre, who also served in Government as Cabinet Minister, as well as the country’s Ambassador to South Africa.
Cde Moyo died on Sunday at Mater Dei Hospital, in Bulawayo, after battling cancer.
Speaking last night after returning from the Intra-African Trade Fair in Durban, South Africa, President Mnangagwa said Ambassador Moyo lived his whole life in politics.
“I first met him in 1979 at Lancaster (Independence negotiations in England). At that time, he was an assistant to the late vice president Joshua Nkomo. I don’t think he had an adult life outside the struggle.
“From Makerere (Ugandan university) he joined the struggle on the ZAPU side, and he has been with us throughout,” President Mnangagwa said.
The President added:
“So, I don’t know of any of his life outside politics, the struggle and outside servicing the country, or in the public service. We have indeed lost an articulate cadre among us, and we feel poorer.”
