ZIFA and the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) which defines the relationship between the entities and opportunities for collaboration in running local football.
The MOU, which has FIFA’s blessings, sets boundaries and establishes duties and responsibilities of the two organisations to avoid clashes similar to the one that resulted in Zimbabwe’s recent suspension from international football.
The pact was part of FIFA recommendations when the suspension was lifted last year.
It addresses three main areas that include good governance, measures to get rid of sexual harassment from domestic football and lobbying for funds for national teams.
The document recognises the autonomy of ZIFA, as well as the association’s duty to respect and acknowledge the laws of the country and Government.
The signing ceremony was held in Harare on Friday, with high-ranking officials from FIFA and the ZIFA Normalisation Committee in attendance.
SRC chairperson Gerald Mlotshwa and his ZIFA Normalisation Committee counterpart, Lincoln Mutasa, were upbeat about the latest development.
“This MOU records the framework for the development of an effective, efficient and transparent working relationship among the parties.
“The context of this MOU is anchored on establishing a relationship for collaboration among the parties which will define the responsibilities and objectives of each party.
“This MOU shall subsist for an indefinite period. It may be reviewed, amended or terminated at any time upon agreement of both parties (in line with the provided clauses),” reads part of the MOU.
