THE secretary-general of the African Parliamentary Union, Mr Idi Gado Boubacar, said he is optimistic Zimbabwe will successfully host the forthcoming African Parliamentary Union Conference scheduled for later this year.

Mr Boubacar was speaking at a press briefing after his courtesy call on President of the Senate, Honourable Mabel Chinomona, at Parliament on Tuesday.

“We have come to Zimbabwe. You know a year ago Zimbabwe accepted to host the conference. It’s a conference that will host about 40 parliaments, with a lot of guests,” he said.

“It’s honour for Zimbabwe to host such a conference. We are here in terms of organisation at every level of Parliament. We have come to Zimbabwe to agree what we must do to make the conference a success and the role each party can play.”

A hosting agreement and other protocols will later be signed with Clerk of Parliament Mr Kennedy Chokuda.
