NEW: Zimbabwe, Afghanistan ODI match abandoned

Zimpapers Sports Hub

THE first ODI between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at Harare Sports Club has been abandoned due to persistent rain.

The contest had been reduced to 28 overs aside after the toss was delayed by almost four hours due to the showers that started early in the morning.

Afghanistan won the toss and put Zimbabwe in to bat first when the showers stopped around midday.

But only 9.2 overs were bowled when the rains returned in the afternoon.

This forced officials to abandon the match.

Zimbabwe had started on the backfoot after sliding to 44/5.
