Online Reporter

The Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has warned the public to be aware of fraudsters who are fleecing unsuspecting victims of money by purporting to be employees of the parastatal.

This follows an incident where a conman purporting to be a procurement officer at the GMB, approached a local company claiming that he could facilitate the supply of mealie meal to the company at a competitive price.

In a statement GMB chief executive, Mr Rockie Mutenha said:

“The Grain Marketing Board would like to warn the public from falling prey to conmen who purport to be employees of the board and could facilitate for them to buy mealie meal.

“It is also in the public interest to know that the GMB stores and manages the Strategic Grain Reserve and sells grain to millers and stock manufactures.”

He urged the public to report suspicious people claiming to be GMB employees to the nearest police station.
