There is no joy for many aspiring musicians as the music industry has become tough. Lawrence “Manrore” Mudondo is one such hopeful who prays that his new offering will be his breakthrough.
He has found it hard to make it in the music industry. The young man, who is only 19 years old sings the popular youth genre Zim dancehall, says the picture is far from rosy. “My first album which comprised 10 tracks hit the streets in 2012. I was helped by Hestings Chiromo, who was my producer during that time,” he said.
The album was a complete flop. It failed to make an impact in the industry. The young man released his latest album “Madigong”, which he hopes people will accept. The album is a seven-tracked, with its popular dancehall song “Usacheme Neria”.
“My song is nothing related to Mr Oliver Mtukudzi’s ‘Neria’. It is only the names that are similar, the lyrics are different,” Lawrence was quick to squash speculation.
The song “Usacheme Neria” is accompanied by a video which he has pinned high hopes on. The song “Usacheme Neria” is sometimes played at the popular dancehall session “Dancehall Ignition Party” hosted by DJ Smiley.
“Sometimes I perform with other artistes but I don’t get any money. I once shared stage with Shinsoman, Freeman and Lady Squanda in Banket,” he said.
Lawrence is hoping to do a collaboration with the popular dancehall queen, Lady Squanda in his next song that he set to release in a few months to come.
“Lady Squanda has promised me, maybe by the end of this month there could be a collabo between me and her.”
Inspired by Dino Mudondo, the young man wishes to be great one day but knows that it will take perseverance and staying power.
“I wish to reach the stage which Oliver Mtukudzi is, that’s why I’m trying to sing mature music,” said Lawrence.
Lawrence said he started music in 2005 when he was only nine years old and is still waiting for his breakthrough.
“If only I could find sponsors and a good manager, I can make it as I have the talent in me,” he said.
The young man is looking forward to holding more shows with prominent artistes.
