CAPS United coach Takesure Chiragwi has ruled out making changes to his squad during the mid-season transfer window, insisting he has full confidence in the players at his disposal as the Harare giants continue their push for Castle Lager Premier Soccer League glory.
Chiragwi made the declaration after watching his side play a goalless draw against Chicken Inn at Barbourfields Stadium on Wednesday afternoon, a result that kept Makepekepe firmly in the championship conversation.
Despite failing to collect maximum points in Bulawayo, the CAPS United mentor expressed satisfaction with his team’s overall performance and believes the current squad possesses enough quality to challenge for the title.
“We are happy with the squad that we have. We have good players and there are no plans to add or subtract anyone from the team,” said Chiragwi after the match.
The stalemate saw CAPS United move to 32 points, level with fellow title contenders Hardrock, underlining the intensity of this season’s championship race.
While some clubs are expected to strengthen their squads during the pending mid-season transfer window, Chiragwi remains convinced that continuity and belief in his current group will yield positive results as the season enters a crucial phase.
Against Chicken Inn, CAPS United enjoyed long spells of possession and created several scoring opportunities but were let down by poor finishing in front of goal.
Nevertheless, the Green Machine coach took encouragement from his side’s ability to control large portions of the contest away from home.
The draw extended CAPS United’s unbeaten run and reinforced their credentials as genuine title challengers, with the Harare giants showing consistency that has kept them among the league’s front-runners throughout the campaign.
With the championship battle becoming increasingly competitive, every point is likely to prove crucial in the coming weeks.
However, Chiragwi appears convinced that the players who have carried CAPS United into contention are capable of taking the club all the way.
As the second half of the season gathers momentum, CAPS United supporters will be encouraged by their coach’s faith in the squad, with Makepekepe remaining firmly in the mix alongside Hardrock, Scottland and other title hopefuls in what is shaping up to be one of the most fiercely contested league races in recent years.
